What I’ve read this week – Doctor Strange, The Walking Dead and 2000AD
Another busy week has meant just four comics completed this week, a shamefully low number but thankfully they were all good ones!
I’ve not actually read The Walking Dead for six months or so picking up the last part of a six part story arc with The Walking Dead #180 probably wasn’t the best idea but I liked the cover – which is interesting as the cover doesn’t seem to bear any resemblance whatsoever to what happened in the comic itself! But it’s not like back issues are hard to pick up (recent ones anyway) so I’m definitely going to pick up the previous five to see what leads up to the events of #180.
I’ve also picked up Doctor Strange #1 and Doctor Strange #2. I’m new to Doctor Strange, having never really been a fan of magic based characters but after seeing and enjoying the movie (I’ve now watched it eight times!) I’m glad I jumped on board this reboot, I’ve enjoyed the comic very much so far. An Iron Man appearance, some sharp dialog and some nice story progression means it’s now on my pull list.
Lastly 2000ad, which I always read every week and which I love for it’s unpredictable nature and utter fearlessness. I never like every story in a single Prog but I always love at least one and that’s pretty much the whole point of 2000ad for me. Living in Melbourne and getting my comics the old fashioned way (dead tree all the way for me!) I’m three months behind the UK so no problem with any spoilers. In this prog – Prog 2078 – motor biking grannies, virtual reality Spitfires and an inconvenient tooth! Favourite story is probably Strontium Dog drawn by the legend Carlos Ezquerra, any story he draws makes a comic worth buying in my book.
I’ve also picked up a couple of graphic novels from my local library but I’ve not finished them yet – Invincible Iron-Man: The War Machines and Batman: Blink, amongst others. I’m just about to go and carry on reading them now, so until next time!
